Welcome to the House of LaDosha

Just a few months ago, Antonio Blair was packing it up and calling it quits on New York. After graduating from the Parsons School of Design in the spring and a summer spent in unemployment limbo, Blair was out of money and out of luck. With all other options exhausted, he reluctantly returned home to Nashville. Of course, that was the moment his luck changed.
In yet another example of how the internet can inadvertently catapult someone to notoriety, if not celebrity, overnight, Blair stumbled into success. Or perhaps, success stumbled into him. Over a year earlier, Blair had devised the drag personae Dosha Devastation, the matriarch of House of LaDosha, who rules “with a soft glove.” Messing around with some friends and a laptop, Blair recorded several tracks under the House of LaDosha name, releasing them on a MySpace page, which is where they sat, largely unnoticed, until one afternoon in late September.
“I mean, honestly, we have no idea what The House of Ladosha is,” read a post on the now defunct Radar Magazine’s website that day, “but it is the best music we’ve heard all year.” Within days, a few thousand people had flocked to House of LaDosha’s MySpace page and the group was inundated with requests from club bookers and producers expressing interest in their work. Fate now seemingly on his side, Blair returned to New York and began plotting House of LaDosha’s grand debut, which finally happened November 21 at the monthly Secret Faggot party at Glasslands Gallery in Williamsburg.
