BET's 10th Annual Celebration of Gospel line up will be a huge step backwards

I would first of like to thank BET for one standing strong as a voice for the African American community through out my own childhood and now as an adult. I am aware that a large company such as BET is a form of media that is set to reflect the current culture of its viewers and that it must cater to this need. I also am aware that things like ratings and viewer loyalty pay the bills so all parties are happy. However I am sending this message in my continued concern for the progression of the black community and its representation. A continued effort to distance our community from violence, misogyny, crime and the many issues that we must stand against together. In specific reference I am emailing to ask BET and its administration to reconsider the inclusion of Donnie Mcclurkin as a performer for the BET's 10th Annual Celebration of Gospel. Although I am very aware of the Christian church's views towards homosexuality and the need to cater to this viewer - I do think that BET has a responsibility to foster change even in a small way. Regardless of individual stance on the issue, I believe the inclusion of Donnie Mcclurkin into the preforming line up not only says to the black christian community that these prejudice views towards homosexuals are justified but to the African American community at large. I am sure that BET's well aware of the way public relation and public image plays into a company's image. For example if BET would have had an on air show toasting Kayne West for all is achievements a week after the Taylor Swift incident, the company image may not be in the best place. To whom it may concern, I ask you to please take all this into consideration if not only for the move towards what is fair but what is smart. BET has generally had a positive image for black entertainment with programs like Harlem Heights and the inclusion of Donnie Mcclurkin as a performer for the BET's 10th Annual Celebration of Gospel line up will be a huge step backwards.
