News Break: GA Senate Passes Anti-Abortion Legislation

SB 438 would prohibit any state employee insurance plans from covering abortions. There is no exemption for the health of the mother’s life. So, if a woman nearly dies giving childbirth and a life-saving abortion has to be performed, the women will be stuck with the bill. The Senate is now debating the bill. Republicans engrossed this bill so that no amendments could be offered. Sen. Jason Carter points out that the bill’s language is flawed and that legislative council agrees. The senator presenting the bill said that Georgian’s should not have to use their taxpayer dollars with things that “may be against their morals.” I find giving $30 million to Delta in tax subsidies while we cut the HOPE Scholarship morally offensive. I find targeting the poor with random drug tests morally offensive. I find rounding up illegal immigrants like cattle and placing them in jail morally offensive. Where is my bill? I demand you stop using my taxpayer dollars to do these reprehensible things.
